Birds

The bird part of these pages are going to be a short decription of the family pets which I aquire. If and when I come across interesting information that I feel is worth publishing here I will add that as soon as possible, however main focus will be my own bird(s). The situation is such that i have found a facination recently with Caiques at first, then Amazons and other types mainly from south america but due to currently rebuilding of my house, I still have not invested in a parrot myself. Likewise there are some disagreement in the family as of what type of bird are welcome. I have therefore accepted to go with a budgie which eventually will end up being first part of a couple which later one probably will extend even further.

As time has gone by, the family have aquired a small bird. She is a budgie or Melopsittacus undulatus. Reason for this selection of bird is simply that it is the most common house bird in Denmark, along with the fact that it does not require too much space. She is born October 2. 2008 and is a very active bird. However shy when it comes to fingers, she love to land on my desk and play around with my stuff. Beside that she for some strange reason love landing in my face.

Plans are now to extend the family with either another budgie or maybe with some other kind of bird from the parrot family. I know it would be best to keep the same kind together specially since parrots are very social animals. However I would love to have multiple species.

The day has come for extending the family, as of monday the 10th of August 09, we bought another another budgie. While the first one have been somewhat territorial the new one took to flight for the first time in our house yesterday. I tried to let them be out at the same time, to much pleasure for the youngling. However our first did not seem to be willing to share the family and defended its cage with biting the younglings toes and wings. This is a behavour that is quite normal however something that should be stopped. Unfortunately this new budgie had some sort of illness and passed away in the beginning of Oct. We buried it in our backyard on a rainy wednesday night. This was a heavy blow on the family.

Weeks passed and our tragic experience with our bird subsided. I finally desided to get YET another one. This time I bough a small "standard" green budgie. He (I believe it is) got his own cage which I filled up with bells, sticks, food and water. Everything he needed to get comfy. I let him sit for an hour and then got close to him. He was very loud from the second he was in his cage, singing and hopping around. I even tried to take a huge step putting my hand into the cage. It was fine he didnt mind as long as he I didnt touch him. Now training will begin.
